I noticed this piece of artwork because it reminded me of the print that I studied for my Communication art prints. The print that was used for the Battleship Potemskin Irish film that depicts Russian politics. The bold letters seem similar to the bold letters of the prints that I studied. What particularly took my interest was the use of those three main colours, purple, orange and green. It is used in a way in which different shapes and lines are made. I also liked how the shapes and lines made up part of her clothes, this is an interesting way of making up the rest of the figure. What is also similar between the two prints is that they both are used for a film which depicts politics, the bold and graphic design captures the attention of the viewers and therefore makes an impact on them such as politics also does. Before starting UAL I didn’t know much about how art could represent a film but I realise now how important it is. It not only sets a basis on what the film will be about but it is supposed to entice and convince people to watch the film. After seeing this piece of work at the Tate Modern I did a bit more research about the specific film and came to know that it was for a silent film feature directed by Vyacheslav Viskovsky.
